Beyond being a musical competition, Eurovision is about innovation, originality and artistic expression.
With a song in a Bond air, Belgium is represented this year to Lisbon by an artist who can be definitely defined by the word “interesting.” It’s just “A matter of time” until we can enjoy Sennek‘s artistic act, but until then we discover her in a new exclusive interview for Romania with our favorite participants to this year’s Eurovision Song Contest.

Hello, Sennek! First of all, tell us which is the best lesson that you learned thoughout your carreer? / Buna, Sennek!

Be yourself and do only what you believe in. / Fii tu insuti si fa doar ceea ce crezi.

Your song is one with a very special mood. Tell us a bit about its story, its message and its composers. / Piesa ta are o stare foarte speciala. Spune-ne mai multe despre povestea, mesajul si compozitorii sai.

I wrote my song “A Matter Of Time” myself, together with Alex Callier from the Belgian band Hooverphonic and with the French producer Maxime Tribeche. For me, the song is timeless and elegant and it has a melancholy side that tells a strong story: it’s about being able to see beauty in things that are fleeting. The tension of watching something precious slip away and finding the beauty in that. It makes you appreciate things more and you realize that there’s also great beauty in the little things that we have. / Am scris cantecul “A Matter Of Time” impreuna cu Alex Callier, membrul trupei belgiane Hooverphonic si cu producatorul francez Maxime Tribeche.

What feelings does it give your representing of your national country to the biggest European music contest?

It’s a big honour of course. I was surprised when our national broadcaster VRT asked me to represent Belgium, but also very flattered. It’s very exciting: Eurovision means appearing on stage for all of Europe and I’m representing Belgium, so I want everyone to be proud of me.

Eurovision has become over years a political contest. Do you think that nowadays it is more important to have political and financial power than vocal and musical strength?

I think that a good song and act are still very important to win. These last few years especially there have been such amazing songs in the competition! If a song is really good and you can touch people as an artist, then I think Europe will feel that and vote.

The previous year participant, Blanche, has been well received to this competition. What advice did she give you about ESC? / Participanta de anul trecut, Blanche, a fost foarte bine primita in cadrul ESC. Ce sfat ti-a dat in aceasta privinta

I only spoke Blanche shortly but she was very sweet and happy for me.

What are your future plans after the moment Lisbon 2018?

I will continue working on my solo project like I did before.

Did you listen the songs that have been released for Eurovision 2018? Which one do you like the best?

What advice would you give to someone who choose to start a musical career?

The same what I learned myself during my career: be yourself, that’s very important. And I learned a lot from working with amazing artists. Through working with them you can get to know your own style, working with others is the best way to learn./ Acelasi lucru pe care l-am invatat in timpul carierei mele: fii tu, asta e foarte important.

How far do you know about Romania by now? / Cat de multe stii despre Romania?

I have never been there, but it’s on my bucketlist./ Nu am fost niciodata acolo, dar se afla pe lista mea de asteptare.
