EXCLUSIV!

Hello, David! We are on the verge of your two shows that you will hold in the fall of 2018 for your Romanian fans. After a spectacular performance during the festival “George Enescu”, from this year, what should we expect from “Explosive” tour? / Buna David! Suntem in apropierea celor doua show-uri pe care le vei sustine in toamna anului 2018 pentru toti fanii tai din Romania. Dupa un show spectaculos in timpul festivalului “George Enescu”, din acest an, la ce ar trebui sa ne asteptam de la turneul “Exploziv”?

David Garrett: Well, it’s going to show a different musical side of me. I have a wonderful band which I’ve been playing with for over 10 years now and we’re going to play music from the last 400 years – from classical music, to rock, to pop, to a little bit of folk music, to jazz. It’s basically what I love listening to. As Leonard Bernstein used to say, there’s only good and bad music and we’re going to play the good music. / Show-ul va arata o alta latura muzicala a mea.

What things did you enjoy the most while your staying in Romania? / Ce lucruri ti-au placut cel mai mult in timpul vizitei tale in Romania?

David Garrett: I’ve always experienced the Romanian people to be very enthusiastic and friendly. The audience has embraced me every time I came and performed – thank you very, very much for that. It’s really become a relationship which I hope will last for many years / Intotdeauna am simtit ca publicul roman este foarte entuziast si prietenos.

What can you tell us about your album, “Rock Revolution”? What is new?

David Garrett: Well, the program is in the title. After doing the soundtrack album with “Garrett vs Paganini” and then doing an original record with “Explosive” and also the Brahms and Bruch concerto in between – I wanted to do another rock record. And that’s what this album is.

How do you choose the songs for your crossover program? / Cum alegi piesele pentru programul tau crossover?

David Garrett: It’s very simple: Whatever I love listening to, whatever makes me emotional, whatever makes me excited. Those are the pieces I try to rearrange for my instrument. Of course, not everything is compatible with the violin but I’m pretty stubborn so I just work a little harder until it works. / Este foarte simplu. Orice imi place sa ascult, orice ma emotioneaza, orice ma incanta.

Do you think that your style approaches more people to classical music?

David Garrett: Oh, absolutely. I don’t want to exaggerate but I guess thousands of people have started listening to classical music because of me, especially young kids. Over the years there have been so many young boys and girls in the audience who actually show up with their own instrument. That’s probably the biggest gift I got in my life. / Absolut.

You have dedicated your life to classical music. Can you tell us what continues to drive you and to influence you?

David Garrett: I don’t exactly know the source. I think there isn’t really an explanation, there’s just something which makes me want to do the next project and gets me excited about new things. I don’t know where it’s coming from but this drive is certainly in my system.

Is there any moment from your career so far that stands out as particularly special or memorable? / Exista vreun moment in cariera ta de pana acum care se remarca in mod special sau memorabil?

David Garrett: It would be very difficult for me to pin down just one moment. Every time I go on stage, connecting with an audience, is something very special to me.

We know that you have also played the role “Paganini” and you are known as “The Devil’s violinist”. If you had been born as Paganini, would you choose another life path?

David Garrett: I certainly would make sure I had a good dentist around because he really had some problems with his teeth by the end of his life and they were all pulled. (laughs) But, to be serious, I’m honestly very happy in my skin. I think I live in a wonderful time, in a time of connecting with a lot of people and with lots of audiences. And the travelling back then – being in the carriage just for 2-3 hours at the film set gave me an idea how musicians used to travel in the 19th century. Trust me, I’d rather take the plane! / Cu siguranta m-as fi asigurat ca am un medic dentist bun, pentru ca Paganini a avut reale probleme cu dintii pana la sfarsitul vietii sale, toti fiindu-i extrasi. (rade) Dar, serios, sunt foarte fericit in pielea mea.

If it wasn’t for music … what would it be? / Daca nu ar fi fost muzica…?

David Garrett: Of course I have interests outside the music world. For instance, I love architecture, I love interior design. I also love going to museums. I don’t know, maybe I would be a curator at the MET, I have no idea (laughs). / Desigur ca am interese in afara lumii muzicale.

What single ambition have you still to achieve? / Ce ambitie mai ai de atins?

David Garrett: The only goal I have in life is to always represent good music and quality. And if a project doesn’t do that then I’d rather not do it.
