EUROVISION 2023 | REILEY – DENMARK : „I just want people to enjoy my music and connect with it in whichever way.”
Rani Petersen (born 24 November 1997), known professionally as Reiley, is a Faroese singer and social media influencer. He is scheduled to represent Denmark in the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 with the song „Breaking My Heart„. He is the first person from the Faroe Islands to represent Denmark at Eurovision.
Hello, Reiley and welcome to Romania! It is a pleasure to do this interview. Firstly, tell us a bit about your musical career path.
Thank you!! Well I started playing piano when I was 6 or 7 years old. I was then cast in a musical back in my home town and fell in love with performing live. Eventually I started posting videos on social media and grew a following.
What are the skills that you think a true social media influencer should have and how can we create positivity through social media in your opinion?
Mainly creating engaging content and have thick skin. I’m not sure how to promote positivity on social media because the problem is rarely with creators. It’s almost always trolls and “haters” (I use that word kind of jokingly) that are the cause of negativity on the internet. People love drama and negativity, it’s such an ingrained part of online interaction.
As the first Feroese representing Denmark to ESC, what Feroese skills will you bring for the first time to the ESC stage ?
I’m not sure if I have any extraordinary skills, perhaps I’ll bring some kind of novelty.
Which is the message that you want to get to people’s hearts through your song, “Breaking my heart”?
I just want people to enjoy my music and connect with it in whichever way.
What is the best way that you have recovered and recommend for getting over a broke heart?
Letting yourself really feel it, then distractions from friends and family and then over time it will be a less and less significant part of your life.
Share us some things about your performance and your show from the Liverpool stage.
My stage in Liverpool will be very different from my show in the Danish finals. There will be colors and some similar elements from my music video.
Have you listened to the songs of the other competitors? On which you have your bet on? And what do you think about our performer, Theodor Andrei?
I honestly haven’t listened too many. Theodor is very cool though!
How is the world of a teenager that has been always surrounded by music, behind the stage? What does always make you happy?
Being creative always makes me happy.
