EXCLUSIVE | EUROVISION 2024 INTERVIEW – KALEEN (AUSTRIA) : “My music is an invitation to connect, to dance, and to embrace the spirit of Eurovision—together, as one global community.”

Marie-Sophie Kreissl aka Kaleen is a professionally trained singer and dancer.  She won her first national dance championship at the age of seven – the first of more than 100 national and European championships, five world championships, as well as various special awards across all disciplines. Next to her dancing career, she discovered her talent to sing. Since 2020, she also works as a choreographer and stagecoach. She taught herself how to record and produce songs professionally.

In 2021, she was the creative director for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest for Spain and Bulgaria, as well as the creative director for Spain and stage director for the entire production in 2022. Last year, she supported Austria, Armenia, Germany, and Georgia with their stage performances at the Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool.

And this year Kaleen already brought joy to the European audience with her song, We will rave, and will set Malmo stage on fire in Eurovision Song Contest. Kaleen is competing in the first half of the second semifinal from 9 May.  And it’s our personal favorite and number 1 of all entries this year!

Daily Magazine has the joy and privilege of making this interview with wonderful Kaleen. Enjoy and rave the world!

What does the Eurovision competition truly mean to you?

The Eurovision competition holds immense significance for me personally and for us as a team. It represents a unique platform where artists from diverse backgrounds come together to celebrate music, culture, and unity. For me, Eurovision embodies the spirit of inclusivity and creativity, allowing artists to showcase their talents on an international stage.

Moreover, participating in Eurovision is a remarkable opportunity to share our music with a global audience, fostering connections beyond borders. It’s a chance to make meaningful connections, inspire others, and leave a lasting impact through our artistry.

Ultimately, Eurovision symbolizes the power of music to transcend barriers and bring people together, and I am honored to be a part of this incredible journey.

What defines you as an artist? And how can you describe yourself in 3 Eurovision songs?

As an artist, I believe that authenticity, passion, and storytelling define who I am and what I stand for. I strive to create music that not only resonates with listeners but also reflects my unique experiences, emotions, and perspectives. Authenticity is at the core of my artistry. I believe in staying true to myself and expressing my true essence through my music. Whether it’s through heartfelt lyrics, captivating melodies, or powerful performances, I aim to connect with my audience on a genuine and sincere level.

Passion drives me forward in my artistic journey. I am deeply passionate about music and dance and the profound impact it can have on people’s lives. It fuels my creativity, motivates me to push boundaries, and inspires me to constantly evolve as an artist. In essence, what defines me as an artist is my commitment to authenticity, my unwavering passion for music and for dance. These elements shape my artistic vision and drive me to create music that resonates deeply with both myself and my audience.

Three ESC songs that describe me are “We got love” (Jessica Mauboy), “Fuego” (Eleni Foureira), “Take me to your heaven” (Charlotte Perrelli).

What are your best daily motivations as an artist in ESC?

Be professional. Be strong. Have fun.

What is the story and the message of your song and how much do you find yourself in the song?

“We Will Rave” is about needing a place of refuge when your heart is broken, and finding it in music. The rave is where the outsiders and wounded souls go to heal and dissolve their problems through music. It’s the sea of rhythm that washes the pain away and gives us salvation. “We Will Rave” resonates deeply with me on a personal level. Like many, I’ve experienced moments of heartache and felt the weight of the world on my shoulders. This song reflects the universal human experience of seeking solace and refuge in music during times of hardship.

What details can you give us regarding your show on the stage?

We are still working on our performance but my show is going to be a vibrant and dynamic celebration of music and dance. We have meticulously crafted every aspect of my performance to create an unforgettable experience for our audience.

Expect mesmerizing visuals, captivating choreography, and infectious energy that will have you dancing in your seats. My goal is to create a magical moment that resonates with viewers across Europe and beyond.

If you could make a duet or a revamp, what artist and song from ESC would you choose and what would you add?

I would choose Celine Dion’s ‘Ne partez pas sans moi.’ However, I wouldn’t want to add or change anything about the song because it’s perfect as it is. I would simply love to sing with her 😊
