EUROVISION EXCLUSIVE | Justyna Steczkowska (POLAND) : “My music tells the world about myself, about my own experiences, about my spiritual development.”

After having her song, Witch-er Tarohoro, on repeat for almost one year, Justyna Steczkowska comes back  powerful, energetic and eclectic to this year’s Poland Eurovision National Selection that will take place on 14th February. Her song, Gaja, speaks about a holistic society where change starts with self.

Justyna is a Polish singer, songwriter, photographer, and actress. Runner-up in Dancing with the stars, host of Dancing on ice, coach of the Voice of Poland. In 2024, she finished second in Poland’s national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 with the song “Witch-er Tarohoro”. The following year, she advanced to the national final of Poland’s national preselection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 with the song “Gaja”.

Daily Magazine has the opportunity of a great interview with a great artist! From Romania to Poland and back with love.

Hello! Thank you for giving us the opportunity to meet you today! How are you on the verge of Poland National Final?

Thank you so much. I am very well. Today we start with our rehearsals with the dancers. We have an initial idea of the entire performance. I hope that the audience will like it and that I will be able to perform in Eurovision once again after 30 years. It would be also a beautiful gift from my fans and the Polish audience for the 30th anniversary of my artistic work.

What does the Eurovision competition really mean to you?

New challenges, new possibilities, wonderful emotional moments of joy that are given by a unique Eurovivion audience.

What defines you as an artist? And how can you describe yourself in 3 Eurovision songs?

My music tells the world about myself, about my own experiences, about my spiritual development. I am glad that as an artist I have such an opportunity. I always hope that my songs and lyrics will help people on their own way.

What is the story and the message of your song and how much do you find yourself in the song?

What we lack nowadays is the lack of a deep coexistance with nature, but also the lack of respect for its laws. We are all connected. We have a direct influence in each other. I believe that by expanding our awareness, we will slowly become a holistic society that will be sensitive not only to our needs, but also to the needs of the world around us. I know that it is dufficult and requires an individual work of each of us, but I also believe that the world will change for better, because change starts with ourselves.

What details can you give us regarding your show on the stage?

First of all, a new version of the song „Gaja” („Gaja” Eurovivion Edit) has its premiere on 21.01.2025. We extended it to 3 minutes. This version is much more interesting and powerful. Thanks to this, we will have an opportunity to show it in a more spectacular way by adding elements of contemporary choreography.

If you could make a duet or a revamp, what artist and song from ESC would you choose and what would you add?

I would choose Loreen because she is fantastic. I would love to sing a duet with her.

Why should people vote for you in the National Selection?

You can’t force the audience to do anything. Its choices always makes sense, because the audience is usually guided by its heart. The freedom of choice is the most important and I don’t want to tell anyone what to do. But I will be very happy, if people love our show and I have the chance to represent our country in Basel.

What will be next after Eurovision?

If I go to Basel, it will be wonderful. I will be very grateful to all those people who will give me the chance to present my song „Gaja” to the Euroviosion audience. But if I fail, I will return to my duties which I have a lot in my work. I have my own concerts ahead of me. I am going on tour with my latest album „Witch Tarohoro” in autumn.

For the end, share a message to all your European fans and to Daily Magazine readers!

I would like to say what is important to me and what is on my latest album „Witch Tarohoro”: Single drops create rivers, lakes, oceans. People create families, nations, civilization. Every drop is important. Each of us is important. Together, we can become a reborn, clean ocean of life, in which future generations will see themselves. I would like to remind us who we are in the context of not only nature and the world, but also in the context of the universe.
