TV5MONDEplus streaming platform now available in Romanian

TV5MONDE, the world's largest French-language TV channel, watched by more than 421 million households worldwide, is launching TV5MONDEplus, its French-language streaming platform in Romania, with Romanian interface and subtitles. With over 2 million visits per month and 7,000 hours of content available, the platform is accessible free of charge, on all devices: web platform, mobile apps (iOS and Android compatible with Chromecast and AirPlay), connected TV (Amazon Fire TV, Android TV and Roku) and Smart TV (LG and Samsung).

 

One million homes in Romania already watch TV5MONDE EUROPE every week

 

Every week, more than one million homes in Romania watch TV5MONDE EUROPE, which has been subtitled in Romanian since 2008. In addition, the channel's viewing time has increased by 26% over the last four years, showing an increased interest of Romanians in French-language productions. Moreover, fully involved in local cultural and educational life, TV5MONDE is a partner of the biggest cultural events in Romania such as the French Film Festival (FFF), the Transylvania International Film Festival (TIFF), the Astra Film Festival (AFF). To help promote multilingualism, TV5MONDE also provides its online educational platform "Apprendre et enseigner le français" available free of charge to all French language learners and teachers.

 

The launch of TV5MONDEplus in Romanian is therefore the next natural step in the digital expansion of television, with the aim of enabling French speakers and Francophiles in Romania to discover the best French-language programmes through a single interface.

 

7,000 hours of entertainment available on TV5MONDEplus

 

TV5MONDEplus is intended as a complementary offer to the TV channel. The way people consume media is evolving rapidly, with demand for content anytime, anywhere and on any device. TV5MONDEplus responds to this need by offering 7,000 hours of premium content on demand and free of charge. The platform's catalogue consists of general entertainment ranging from cinema (series, arthouse and short films), series, documentaries, magazines, animation, web creations or children's programmes from all over the French-speaking world.

 

This month Romania celebrates 30 years of membership of the International Organisation of the Francophonie

 

The launch of TV5MONDEplus in Romania takes place in the context of the celebration of the 30th anniversary of Romania's accession to the International Organisation of La Francophonie, an organisation that brings together 88 French-speaking countries, of which Romania has been a full member since 1993. TV5MONDE was created 40 years ago by the governments of France, Belgium, Switzerland, Canada and Quebec to promote the Francophonie and its mission. Today, TV5MONDE represents eight general entertainment channels around the world in 213 countries - including China, North Korea, Cuba and South Sudan. There are also two thematic channels, a children's channel in the US, Africa and Middle East - North Africa and a lifestyle channel available in Asia, the US and Middle East - North Africa.

 

Currently, over 421 million households worldwide have access to one or more TV5MONDE channels, and in the 24 countries where the channel measures ratings, the channel is watched by 62 million viewers every week. TV5MONDE programmes are subtitled in 13 languages, including Romanian since 2008.
